The Flinternship Experience

Hey Everyone! This is my first blog and the one which I have been craving to finish. This blog is about my internship experience at one of the leading E-commerce company, Flipkart @Summer'16.
I would like to divide the whole experience in three broad parts which are, the selection procedure for the internship, the experience before joining and experience during the internship.

Selection Procedure: The selection process for the internship was done in just one day consisting of a coding test based on very basics of Data Structures and Algorithms, and a short technical interview of around 20 minutes after that (yeah! That’s short for a technical interview).

Pre Internship Experience: After the selection procedure was done we were called for all the technical talks that Flipsters [yeah that’s the term used for employees] gave in institute. They were alumnus of IIT Bombay and had been working in Flipkart for over 5 years. Later on, we had a really great dinner with the HR team and they continued greeting us with a lot of goodies throughout the remaining year before joining the intern.

The Internship: On the day 1, we were introduced to all the major verticals of the business of Flipkart and also had many fun activities including, a full scale treasure hunt across the 11 floor office, the marshmallow challenge and the fun committee discussion to decide fun activities for the whole flintern group (approx. 90 people). On the day 2 we had a visit to the mother hub near Bangalore to get an idea of how this big supply chain network works on the ground. Also as I failed to mention our internship includes stay in the IBIS Hotel for 15 days including free Brunch every day and shuttle service at every half an hour for office and vice versa. The round of introduction doesn’t stop just here and we received a very warm welcome from the Consumer Platform team (which I was a part of) on our first day of the work.
My work was to create a Management system for Push pages on Flipkart Domain, to increase the efficiency of the Page Services. The Impact of this project can be understood by looking at the fact that this system reduced the total man-hours required in managing Push pages by 50%.
Work at Flipkart might be hectic (you need to work 12-14 hours a day when needed) but Flipkart equally takes care of its employees by providing so many fun opportunities at Office and outside office too. I had hell lot of treats, outings and night outs with my team.

To conclude this blog I would say, it was a great experience working with the nexus team and I have learnt hell lot more than I had expected from this internship. :)
